Bus strike ‘risks public safety’

A bus strike in Edinburgh, southeastern Scotland, may pose a risk to public safety, Lothian Buses’ director has claimed, after drivers voted to reject a last-minute deal.

The bus firm says services will either operate on a significantly reduced basis or they may not run at all.

Organisers have planned the strike — on Friday 2nd August — to coincide with the first day of the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe.

The Unite union had recommended that, following talks, its 1,700 members accept a new deal.
