Above-inflation fare rises in 2021 will hit bus users in London, following the government’s £1.6 billion bailout of the capital’s transport system.
In the meantime, Transport for London (TfL) will temporarily halt free travel for children and reintroduce bus fares, which it had scrapped to protect drivers from Covid-19.
In addition, people aged 60 or over with a disability will only be able to travel for free outside peak hours.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan (b. 1970), said fare income had plunged 90% in the lockdown.
