‘Excessive speed’ caused crash

A bus approached a bend on a road in northern Scotland ‘at speed’ before it crashed, killing its driver.

Mohamed Chache died and his nine passengers sustained injuries in the crash at a small bridge on the B9161 — near Munlochy, Highlands — on Saturday 11th January.

A fatal accident inquiry heard that the bus had been travelling at 52mph (84kph) and the speed limit at the bridge was 40mph (64kph).

A sheriff has determined that the cause of the bus crash was down to excessive speed.
