New funds for bus schemes

Hampshire County Council (HCC) is set to deliver 10 new schemes to improve bus travel in Fareham, Gosport, and Havant, following news of a successful bid for national funding.

HCC, Portsmouth City Council, and Isle of Wight Council jointly secured almost £56 million from the government’s Transforming Cities Fund to improve the way people travel by bus.

One of the projects — scheduled for completion by the end of 2023 — will be the development of a local bus and taxi hub next to Gosport’s ferry terminal.

The funding announcement follows a previous grant of £4 million, which HCC used to deliver real-time info for passengers at bus stops in and around Havant and Waterlooville and, in Rowner, Gosport, an enhanced scheme to extend the Eclipse busway to Rowner Road.
