City bus gate plans scrapped

A council has scrapped plans for two temporary bus gates in Oxford, Oxfordshire.

Both Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford City Council had planned to install gates in Hythe Bridge Street or Worcester Street and St Cross Road or South Parks Road.

The measures, had they gone ahead, would have blocked cars from travelling through much of the city centre.

Yesterday, however, Oxfordshire County Council decided to ditch the project, citing the impact on businesses and residents.
