Flames engulf bus in rush hour

A bus driver has been hospitalised after his double-decker bus caught fire in the West Midlands.

Emergency services attended the incident, at the Warwick University campus in Coventry, just after 9 a.m.

The fire, which began in the bus’s engine, is now out but Gibbet Hill Road remains closed while the vehicle’s owner, National Express, arranges for its removal.

There was praise for the driver from ambulance staff who said he ensured all his passengers had left the bus before getting off himself.
