Bus travel boost planned for Bristol

The Mayor of Bristol has announced plans to double both passenger numbers and the frequency of buses on main routes.

Marvin Rees (b. 1972) wants a citywide flat bus fare so people travelling from ‘less affluent parts’ are not penalised.

The mayor said he was looking towards a ‘long-term and sustained public and private investment in the bus network’.

Steve Melia, a senior university lecturer in transport and planning, however, said it will not make ‘any substantial difference’ to congestion.
