U-turn over wheelchair bus refusal

A council has reversed its decision to refuse a free bus to school for a 10-year-old wheelchair user in Derbyshire.

Josh Higginbottom has cerebral palsy, which affects movement in his arms and legs, but the authority told him he could not get a bus as he lives within 4.8 km (3 mi) of his school.

Sharon Davis, Josh’s mother, said she felt ‘relief’ but was also ‘frustrated’ that they had to ‘keep fighting’ for transport help.

Derbyshire County Council has not clarified why it has decided to change its decision.
