Pledge to transform bus services

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid (b. 1969), has pledged ‘to transform [bus] services’ with a multimillion-pound cash injection.

Mr Javid said the money would help investment in ULEVs (ultra low emission vehicles).

Council cuts have forced bus operators to axe or reduce more than 3,000 routes since 2010.

The Chancellor, whose father was a bus driver, told MPs: ‘I know local buses can be a lifeline for many communities, so today we put the wheels back on the great British bus with more than £200 million to transform services.’
