Oxfordshire County Council is set to drop a plan to prohibit cars from parts of Oxford’s city centre following a backlash from the public.
The authority, along with Oxford City Council, wanted to install temporary bus gates in Hythe Bridge Street or Worcester Street and St Cross Road or South Parks Road.
A final decision by county councillors on the outcome of the £400,000 project, which thousands of people opposed in a consultation, will likely take place in a meeting on Tuesday 13th October.
Oxford City Council, however, still wants the bus gates — short sections of road that only buses and other authorised vehicles can use — to go ahead.
