Bus driver jailed for murder

A court has jailed a bus driver — who claimed he murdered his wife after she threatened to throw him out for having Covid-19 — for a minimum of 22 years.

Hussein Egal used a ladder, a meat cleaver, and a table leg during his ‘frenzied’ assault on Maryan Ismail in April 2020.

Following a trial at the Old Bailey — the chief criminal court for England and Wales — the jury took two hours to find the 66-year-old bus driver, from Edmonton, Greater London, guilty.

Imposing a life sentence, Judge Mark Lucraft QC said Egal had shown ‘little, if any, remorse’.
