Situated in two historical buildings at Blake’s Lock is the Riverside Museum. This tells the story of Reading’s two rivers — the Kennet and the Thames. The Screen House features a full-size caravan; the Turbine House has lovely views over the lock.

You can take a leisurely stroll along the towpaths beside the Kennet and Avon Canal. There you will find a myriad of narrow boats to look at, bridges to cross, and ducks and swans aplenty. Close by is Victoria Park, the perfect place to sit down in and relax after your walk.

At Highclere in Hampshire (post town Newbury, in case you were wondering) is Highclere Castle. Built in Victorian style with richly decorated interiors to match, it is the ancestral home of the Earl of Caernarfon. The house contains a wide range of collections and artefacts. There are also lovely parklands and gardens.
