Route 7 split in two

Stagecoach South is making changes to one of its cross-county routes this month. Here we answer some questions about these changes.

What’s happening?
Stagecoach in Hants & Surrey’s route 7 service, which runs between Aldershot (Hampshire) and Reading (Berkshire), is being split in to two routes.

When’s this happening?
The new services start Monday 16th April.

What does this mean?
Stagecoach will continue to run their route 7 service between Aldershot and Hartley Wintney; Reading Buses will take over the Fleet – Reading section.

Can I still use a single ticket?
Yes, you can. Stagecoach’s Dayrider Gold and Reading Buses’ SimplyNetwork day tickets will be valid for travel on both services. Through single and return tickets will also be available on both operators’ buses.

Will the current timetable change?
Yes; however, the hourly (Monday – Saturday) frequency will remain over both sections of the route. The new timetables (see PDF links below) also allow plenty of time to connect with each operator’s service for onward travel.

Where do I change buses?
Both operators suggest you change buses at Hartley Wintney for onward travel; if, however, you start from either Aldershot or Reading, we suggest the Hart Shopping Centre stop at Fleet is a better option.

Bus World’s verdict
Although we would much prefer to keep the service as a single route, at least it will still be possible to travel by bus from one town to the other using just a single ticket.
