Service risk over drivers

23 Aug 2022

Bus users in Bristol remain at risk of losing ‘vital’ services — despite extra government funding — because of a chronic lack of drivers, a local mayor says.

Dan Norris, Mayor of the West of England, voiced his concerns over the city’s bus services as the DfT (Department for Transport) announced it was giving operators in England an additional £130 million of funds.

Mr Norris said those bus services in Bristol whose fares did not cover running costs would be lost.

In a further boost to operators, the government has extended the Bus Recovery Grant until the end of March 2023.
