Calls for £2 bus fare cap

Under new government plans, bus operators in regions outside the capital could cap fares at £2.
The Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, has called for a yearlong cap — funded through a £260 million subsidy — in places such as Gloucestershire.

Transport for London (TfL) already caps fares at £1.65 to encourage the use of public transport amidst the cost of living crisis.
A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council said they ‘welcome the plan’ and look forward to more details.
