Bluestar used to trade as Solent Blue Line, a company that the Isle of Wight bus operator, Southern Vectis, formed in May 1987. As Solent Blue Line, this service ran as route 47. The trading name changed to Bluestar in 2004; the company, however, still holds the original Solent Blue Line name. Since 2005, it has been a subsidiary of Go South Coast, which is itself part of Go-Ahead.
