Memorial to the Pilgrim Fathers
18 Oct 2002
Along Town Quay you will come across this memorial to the Pilgrim Fathers. It is in the Lansdowne Hill area of Southampton, Hampshire.

Travel Details
We made our way to one of the bus stops along Romsey Road; this is in the Maybush area of the city. From there we caught the number 15 bus, run by Solent Blue Line, to our destination, which was just a short walk away.
About the Destination
The obelisk is a memorial to the Pilgrim Fathers — a group of English puritans — who set sail from here, in 1620, for the New World. Bad weather forced them to take refuge in Plymouth — giving rise to the widely held belief that they began their voyage from that city — before the weather cleared and they were able to resume their journey.
Purpose of Visit
We travelled here to obtain stock photos for the In the News section.
