Bus stop improvement funds

Funds of up to £5 million will go towards improving bus stops and shelters, as operators face ‘a toxic mix of challenges’.

The changes, with the aim of attracting people back on to buses, will take place in the council areas of Bristol, Bath, North East Somerset, and South Gloucestershire.

Several routes are set to disappear in the West of England region in October, amid driver shortages and fewer passenger journeys.

Cllr Kevin Guy, leader of B&NES [Bath & North East Somerset] Council, said a long-term strategy on transport was required.
